Many folks are out looking for trees to replace ones that have been damaged by frost and or just to provide shade and aesthetics to their landscape. One of the biggest disservices our industry has done for the consumer is to sell trees by the size of the container they are in rather than the size of the tree. When you are looking for trees take note or measure the caliber of the trunk, the height and spread of the tree itself. Then you can compare more effectively. Many times you will find that you are paying for dirt and a bigger pot, not for a tree that is any larger. Also take into consideration how much bigger the tree in the next size up actually is. Things grow very fast here and trees always grow much faster once in the ground than in the nursery pot. Often you are paying a huge premium for what might only be 6-12 months of growth! Buy the tree, not the pot!
