Do You Have Critters In The Garden of Your Dreams?
Have you noticed the amazing amount of butterflies this fall around your garden/landscape? It seems to us that there is an amazing amount of beauty among the beauty this fall! If you need help planning a garden or landscape that attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, or just the envious neighbor; let us know and we’ll be over with bells on to help you plan or renovate your landscape into the dream garden for all God’s creatures large or small!
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention that all that glitters is not gold however. The not so attractive critter pictured above (well disguised as a bird dropping) is the very hungry larvae of the beautiful swallowtail butterfly in the picture in the headline. This guy is usually found on citrus trees and doesn’t do much damage and control is generally not recommended-we can all put up with him eating a little so we can have a beautiful butterfly. If you have any tecomas, bougainvilleas, and especially leafy veggies you should be on the lookout for very small ravenous caterpillars however that might eat more than their share. How you control them is up to you-some choose to pick off, there are very effective “safe” controls like BT, Spinosad, and Neem Oil if the task is just a little to much for you! As always you should evaluate how much damage is being done and is control necessary!
