Low water use plants and sub tropicals are starting to look great-we’ve received lots of new lantana and bougainvilleas, hibiscus, jasmine, dwarf bottlebrush, emus, ruellia, and for the butterfly lovers-more milkweed! There are really too many new things coming in to mention!
Warm weather perennials and annuals- Pentas showed up this week, angelonia coming in friday, Mediterranean vinca is here as is moss rose, several other types of vinca, ornamental sweet potato vine, golden fleece, gazania…… As you can see we’re busy keeping our garden stocked so you can take it home to yours!!
Remember to watch the weeds-control within your comfort level but do it while they’re young, and it’s not too late to use pre emergent herbicides.
Aphids, caterpillars, and other critters are showing up. Aphids on the usual suspects like roses, hibiscus, milkweed, ash trees-we received praying mantids in this week to help you control them a la natural! Caterpillars will be showing up soon if not already-just by the sheer amount of butterflies i’m seeing about. Texas Mountain laurel, grape vines, citrus, geraniums, and leafy vegetables are usually the hot spots in spring. Use B.T. or spinosad for safe non toxic control!
Feed it!! New growth is pushing out like crazy on almost all plants. Be sure to fertilize so plants can grow like crazy before the heat sets in!! If you want to see what feeding 5-15-15 fertilizer can do to your vegetable garden-come in and take a look at what brother Jeff’s tomatoes look like! We can have your’s looking just as good in no time!!
